My First Time Reading Romance: One Day in December by Josie Silver (Reese Witherspoon’s Book Club Pick, December 2018)

Confession time: I had never read a contemporary romance novel until 2018. It was not something intentional and definitely not something based on any prejudices. I think it all comes from not being a particularly romantic person – anyone else out there running from big gestures? But some of my favourite Booktubers and bloggers love romance, so by 2018 I had learned quite a bit about the genre. For example, that it is socially estimagtised and marked as ‘women’s reading’ or ‘chick-lit’ because it is something read mostly by women. It was precisely this snippet of information that so much resembles the perception of crime fiction that made me become…

3 Crime Fiction TV Adaptations to Binge Watch This Christmas

Christmas is here! I hope you are all having a fantastic time celebrating and taking some time off. I also hope you are reading a lot. But Christmas can also be the time to binge-watch some TV after long days spent with relatives, friends, and beloved ones. I am an advocate for reading as much as possible, but sometimes it is not the right time to go back to bed alone and read, or we do not have the energy or simply we do not want to! So, in the spirit of Christmas and keeping things bookish, here are 3 crime fiction television shows that will make of yours a…

Bodies in the Library Recommends: Books for Christmas

Who else is super excited for Christmas? I love Christmas. I have been singing Jingle Bellsin my head – and sometimes out loud to the surprise of the people around me – all year. But now it’s finally that time of the year when all my carrol singing is acceptable and you can eat at least a Christmas sweet a day without fearing for your life because you are eating last year’s leftovers. Now, time for books! It may be because I read Little Women when I was really young or simply because I have always loved books, but I can’t think of Christmas without books. I am very, very…

    End of the Year Plans

It’s been a long time since I last did a personal update. But yesterday I realised that 2017 is ALMOST done. How did that happen? If I want to do all the reading and writing that I had initially planned for this year I’d better get started! So here are some plans for what’s left of 2017: I have selected some books that I must read before the new year comes. I won’t share the list here, but I can tell you that most of them are crime fiction written by women (no surprise!), and I have been waiting a long time to read them. But is there a time…

A Very Criminal Christmas! A Crime Fiction Gift Guide

Almost a month has gone by since my last posts and Christmas is almost here! As a bookworm, I can’t imagine Christmas without books. Remember that Christmas scene at the beginning of Little Women? It makes me happy and tearing and inspires me to ask and expect more and be thankful for all the books that I have available either as review copies, gifted by a beloved one, or more importantly, for free at the public library. So, in the spirit of Christmas I thought, why not gift crime fiction to your beloved ones – or even yourself! Here are my picks. They have all been published recently so you…

    Christmasy Readings

We’re entering December’s second week and it’s time for some Christmasy readings! I must admit I never did any themed reading in previous years, mainly because it never occurred to me. But, this year I discovered lots of blogs, challenges and more importantly, themed reading. I asked you on Twitter for a cozy reading and Darby Dashwood suggested Little Women and it felt perfect. I’ll share my personal story with Little Women when I review it. Meanwhile, know that I’m really enjoying it and I find it inspiring: it makes me want to work even harder and enjoy my family. I feel identified with Jo and Meg and I can’t…
