    DNF-ing Books And Moving On

Sometimes life is too short to keep on reading! Ever since I started blogging about books seven years ago I have always encountered one awkward and slightly malicious question: “Why do you only review books that you love?”. At first, I did not understand where the question was coming from, though a quick look at my blog indeed reflected most of my reviews fell into the space between good and this-book-changed-my-life. And that has defined my reading (and my writing) for better or for worse. However, things have changed in the past weeks when I have done the unthinkable: I gave up on two crime fiction books. I have to admit…

3 Crime Fiction TV Adaptations to Binge Watch This Christmas

Christmas is here! I hope you are all having a fantastic time celebrating and taking some time off. I also hope you are reading a lot. But Christmas can also be the time to binge-watch some TV after long days spent with relatives, friends, and beloved ones. I am an advocate for reading as much as possible, but sometimes it is not the right time to go back to bed alone and read, or we do not have the energy or simply we do not want to! So, in the spirit of Christmas and keeping things bookish, here are 3 crime fiction television shows that will make of yours a…

Bodies in the Library Recommends: Books for Christmas

Who else is super excited for Christmas? I love Christmas. I have been singing Jingle Bellsin my head – and sometimes out loud to the surprise of the people around me – all year. But now it’s finally that time of the year when all my carrol singing is acceptable and you can eat at least a Christmas sweet a day without fearing for your life because you are eating last year’s leftovers. Now, time for books! It may be because I read Little Women when I was really young or simply because I have always loved books, but I can’t think of Christmas without books. I am very, very…

    Summer 2017

After 3 months, 4 cities, more than 5 different bedrooms, and lots of trains, buses, and airplanes I’m finally home and ready to enjoy it. Even though I still have some PhD work to do, I plan on taking some time off next month – still to be negotiated with my supervisors – to enjoy my family, cook, go for walks, spend my days at the beach, and read, read, read. As I have received lots of review copies when I was away, I already have a pile of TBR summer books. I do not think any of the books that I have chosen will be in any ‘Summer 2017…

A Very Criminal Christmas! A Crime Fiction Gift Guide

Almost a month has gone by since my last posts and Christmas is almost here! As a bookworm, I can’t imagine Christmas without books. Remember that Christmas scene at the beginning of Little Women? It makes me happy and tearing and inspires me to ask and expect more and be thankful for all the books that I have available either as review copies, gifted by a beloved one, or more importantly, for free at the public library. So, in the spirit of Christmas I thought, why not gift crime fiction to your beloved ones – or even yourself! Here are my picks. They have all been published recently so you…

Feminist Sundays: Classic Works by Women

Feminist Sundays is a weekly meme created at Books and Reviews. The aim is simply to have a place and a time to talk about feminism and women’s issues. This is a place of tolerance, creativity, discussion, criticism and praise. Remember to keep in mind that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, although healthy discussion is encouraged. This week’s Feminist Sunday was inspired by a tweet by Beth who complained about how difficult it was to find a list of classic works written by women. You know I struggle with the idea of a “classic” and how women are more often than not left out. Also, are 20th century…
