    Preach, Sylvia!

Hour by hour, day by day, life becomes possible. Now the exam lies ahead of me like a vile, inert monster – which I will master because I must. Sylvia Plath   I encourage everyone who loves the amazing writer and human being Sylvia Plath was to follow the source from these quotes were taken from. A daily dose of inspiration!

    On the Soul

Judith Butler – in her always inspiring Gender Trouble – cites Michel Foulcault  on the soul: It would be wrong to say that the soul is an illusion, or an ideological effect. On the contrary, it exists, it has a reality, it is produced permanently around, on, within, the body by the functioning of a power that has exercised on those that are punished. Isn’t it one of the most beautiful, inspiring and intelligent quotes ever? Happy weekend! 🙂

    Top Ten Favourite Quotes

Another Tuesday, another Top Ten Tuesday by The Broke and the Bookish! Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created here at The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because we are particularly fond of lists here at The Broke and the Bookish. We’d love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists! Just of lately I’ve been collecting quotes from my favourite books, so these will come as no surprise to those who know what kind of books I like. I think it’s also important to share why I loved the quotes because although they are meaningful…

    Friday Inspiration

This week I discovered a blog I instantly fell in love with. It is called Brain Pickings and I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in mental processes, finding inspiration and just being reminded of how much we love what we do. This week I also spent an insane amount of hours reading and writing for my dissertation. Yesterday I was in front of the computer for 8 hours only stopping to have lunch and drink some tea. So, despite how much I love reading and writing these days are a little bit hard but not too much 🙂 I still love doing research and writing and yesterday…

    Quote: Anna Karenina

My life has been some kind of a mess lately which actually translates in lots of things to do and no time at all to do them. I am caught in a working routine trying to fit in reading, lots of studying and some me-time. As Rachel from Book Snob puts it: Work has been overtaking my life lately. Time for reading? Yeah right. Time for seeing friends? I don’t think so! Time for going on cultural excursions? I wish! However, I’ve been taking solace in Leo Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina. I don’t know why I was so scared of this book. It is complex, and deep, but the gorgeous and…

    Quote: How We Get There

As many of you know, I’m reading the new Kate Atkinson, Life After Life – out 14th March 2013- and apart from being a fabulous, high-quality reading that I highly recommend to anyone, it has made me think about life. This is the thing about great books, they make you think, they question how you see life and in the end, they can actually change how you approach everything. This is reason I’ve always read, not only because I love it and cannot conceive a life without books, but because I want to learn and I want to be challenged. So, when I read the following quote in Atkinson’s Life…

    Quote: Cloud Atlas

Fall has finally decided to show up! Today I woke up to the perfect rainy day with empty streets and the need for a blanket at home. Today I woke up to the perfect day for reading. So, after the daily routine, I lit up a candle and surrounded myself by my books, curled up on a blanket and started to catch up with my weekly reading of Cloud Atlas. As I was reading one of my favourite stories (those of you who’ve read it know how many of them there are), I found this quote and thought it perfect to start the week: Books don’t offer real escape, but…

    Midweek Quote

If blogging has done something for me, apart from making me happier and wiser, it’s been poiting out the books that, according to my taste, I needed to read because I would love them. In the vast sea of published books, sometimes it is hard to decide what to read and find the reasons to do so. Li from Rule the Waves is always taking about Howards End by E.M Forster and how she loves it. Reading her beautiful descriptions of the book, she convinced me I had to read it. So here I am, on a cloudy, grey evening, with Howards End reminding me why I love literature so…
